Types of Air Compressors

 

In terms of structure, piston compressors are often divided into the following forms according to the relative position of the center line of the cylinder.

(1) Vertical compressor

The centerline of the cylinder of the vertical compressor is perpendicular to the ground. Since the working surface of the piston does not bear the weight of the piston, the wear of the cylinder and the piston is less, the working conditions of the piston ring are improved, and the service life of the machine can be extended. The load of the vertical compressor mainly produces tensile and compressive stress on the fuselage, and the fuselage is simply stressed, so the fuselage is simple in shape, light in weight, and not easily deformed. The reciprocating inertial force acts vertically on the foundation, the size of the foundation is small, and the footprint of the machine is small.

(2) Horizontal compressor

The centerline of the cylinder of the horizontal compressor is parallel to the ground, in single or double rows, and all on one side of the crankshaft. Since the whole machine is in the sight of the operator, the management and maintenance are convenient, and the installation and disassembly of the crankshaft and connecting rod are relatively easy.

(3) Angle compressor

The centerlines of the cylinders of the angle compressor are at a certain angle to each other, but not equal to 180°. Due to the different positions of the center lines of the cylinders, they can be divided into L-type, V-type, W-type and fan-type. The structure is convenient to install and disassemble the air valve, the interstage cooler and the interstage air duct, the structure is compact, and the dynamic balance is good.

(4) Opposed compressor

The cylinders are arranged horizontally on both sides of the crankshaft, and the staggered angle of the two adjacent rows of cranks is not equal to 180°. There are two types of opposed compressors: one is that the centerlines of the cylinders of the opposite two rows are not in a straight line, and are made into odd rows such as 3, 5, and 7; the other is that the centerlines of the cylinders of the two opposite rows on both sides of the crankshaft are in a straight line , into an even-numbered column.

(5) Symmetrical balanced compressor

Between the two main bearings of the symmetrically balanced compressor, the crank angle relative to the two rows of cylinders is 180°, the inertial force can be completely balanced, and the rotational speed can be increased; the piston forces of the opposite rows can cancel each other, reducing the stress and wear of the main journal . In the multi-row structure, the number of cylinders in series in each row is small, the installation is convenient, and the product deformation is easier than the horizontal and vertical types.
